t is rare to find someone who has never played video games before. With the current power of the metaverse, NFT, and cryptocurrency, and with several brands investing in gamers as a business strategy, we bring an overview of the Brazilian gaming market, which is well advanced in the field.
We checked out the 9th edition of Pesquisa Game Brasil (PGB), the most important annual survey on the consumption of electronic games in the country, which shows how the social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the consumption of electronic games.
The survey showed that 74.5% of respondents are used to playing electronic games and, from these, 51% are women. Another relevant data is that 84.4% of respondents said that electronic games are among their main forms of entertainment — a significant and expected increase due to the long period of social isolation we have been through in the last two years.
When it comes to devices, smartphones appeared as the preferred platform for the consumption of games here in Brazil, as they are more accessible to our consumers. When asked if the idea of watching movies within digital game worlds was pleasing, 59.3% of respondents confirmed that they would consume other entertainment in digital environments.
Netflix identified and anticipated this consumer demand. This month, the company announced the production of an adult animated series of the popular card game ‘Exploding Kittens.’ In addition to the show, the platform will also launch a mobile version of the game through its branch launched for the gaming market, Netflix Games.
